Salary: £100-£110K
Every few hours in the UK, a young person hears the words “you have cancer”.
Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity providing specialised nursing care and support for young people with cancer. They’re here for anyone diagnosed with cancer aged 13-24.
They exists to improve the survival and quality of life for young people with cancer in the UK. Funded entirely through donations they raised £17m in 2024 and employ c150 staff, funding a further c100 roles in the NHS.
An energetic and young people focused organisation, they’ve transformed cancer care and support for young people since their founding in 1990. Before they started there was no such thing as specialist cancer care for young people. Teenagers and young adults with cancer were treated like children or older adults, with no regard for their unique physical, emotional or social needs. Teenage Cancer Trust disrupted the status quo, fighting for age-appropriate care and support for young people with cancer. Since pioneering Teenage & Young Adult cancer as a specialism they’ve grown to become a global leader in the field.
Today, they fund 28 Teenage Cancer Trust wards in NHS hospitals across the UK; in 2024 they invested a total of £11.1m in care and support for young people with cancer; and each year they support around 2,200 newly diagnosed young people with cancer and their loved ones.
The organisation is in a good shape, with a strong team, a clear sense of purpose, and is rightly proud of the difference they make and with a track record of transforming cancer care for young people.
As they enter the next stage of their evolution, they’re seeking an exceptional Chief Operating Officer to lead their finance, performance, people, culture, data & technology functions. This critical leadership role will work towards the future of Teenage Cancer Trust, as they continue their ambitious transformation to ensure they can meet the needs of young people with cancer in the UK, not just now but in the years to come.
Teenage Cancer Trust are committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone. They acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented within the third sector and are committed to doing what they can to correct this. They are particularly keen to receive applications from people of colour and those from ethnically minoritised backgrounds, disabled and neurodivergent people, people who identify as LGBTQIA, and people who identify as working class or from a lower socioeconomic background (now or in the past).
